WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY – what IS up?!

Whew!  What a weekend we have had!  Cammie and I have been SO busy that we didn’t even stop to post Monday or Tuesday!  Sorry about that!  But, here’s what is up…

Tax season ended last Thursday (shouts of joy!) so our hubbies took off first thing Friday morning for a 4 day fishing trip to Mississippi.  While we missed our husbands a lot, a trip for them meant a PROJECT WEEKEND for us!  Heck yeah!   Any time our husbands (who are brothers by the way) go out of town or overnight anywhere, Cammie and I get together with a mile-long list of projects we WILL accomplish.  We have managed some pretty amazing stuff in the past, and this weekend was no exception!  We can’t wait to share what we’ve done, so keep an eye out for some pretty neat ideas (if I do say so myself!).   We’re even working on a tutorial that we wished we could have found out there somewhere!

FREEBIE FRIDAY – DON’T EAT PETE

I grew up playing the BEST game ever called “Don’t Eat PETE!”  My mom would line up 10 pieces of candy, marshmallows or even chocolate chips on a plate.  We would sit in a circle and one person would turn around while another would point to everyone else which piece of candy was Pete.  Then the person would turn back around and start to pick each piece of candy, one by one hoping not to pick Pete.  If they did pick up Pete everyone in the circle would yell “DON’T EAT PETE” and then it starts all over again with someone else turning around.  Well my kids also love this game!  A few years ago I found some cute game cards from Executive Homemaker.  She has the regular “Don’t Eat Pete” card and some other fun ones.  My boys favorite is:

Don’t Eat Spidey”

v_364-270x350

These are also great gifts.  Last year I made a Thomas the Train for my daughters friend and added a large bag of M&M’s.  The little boy loved it!  Two years ago I had a birthday party for Briggs and the theme was a camping theme.  We set up our tent in the basement and played “Don’t Eat That Fish” from a game card I made.  The kids loved it!  I promise you this game is a hit with kids, plus once they learn how to play they will play for hours!

WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY – The Coolest Idea

This is what’s up today…

IMG_8083

This is how my mom has preserved the yearly school pictures for all 5 of us kids.  She never really cared for those 8x10 versions with the smaller circles surrounding the one big circle graduation picture.  And after several different failed displays, she came up with this idea.  She took each of our pictures and had them custom framed.  Simple, but so COOL!  This proudly hangs in the entryway of my parents house so that all who enter in can see how cute each of their kiddos were.  (I’m the oldest, the top row!)  It is probably the most commented on thing in their home!

Another thing my mom does, which is equally cool (it was totally my idea!), is hang a double framed picture of each of us kids when we graduate high school.  This double frame has our baby picture and our graduation picture…

IMG_8088
So, for the 3 of us who have graduated (this is me of course), these hang in my parent’s stairway. (I couldn’t get a good picture of all of them!)\

Ok, last cool idea…can you tell I love preserving posterity through photos?!  This is what hangs in my parent’s bedroom (yes my idea too!)…

IMG_8090

My mom says she loves being able to look at all her “little sweet faces” every day.  (it was impossible to get a good picture of these because directly opposite is a huge window!)

So, there you have it…my favorite things about my parent’s house!

TASTY TUESDAY – Easter Eggs Benedict

So, I know Easter was Sunday, but this is a tradition in my family that I forgot about until I was here over Easter.  Every year, for as long as I can remember, my mom makes Eggs Benedict for Easter Breakfast.  I LOVE Eggs Benedict, so I will make it on other days besides Easter too, but I also LOVE traditions.  So, I thought I’d share, even though it’s a little late.

IMG_8046

Eggs Benedict (for 1 person)

1 English muffin, split
2 eggs
2 pieces Canadian bacon (or deli ham works too)

Cook eggs in skillet until desired done-ness (I love over-easy).  Fry Canadian bacon (or ham) in skillet until warmed.  Toast English muffin and top each piece with a slice of Canadian bacon and then the cooked egg.  Top with sauce (below), and enjoy!

Sauce:
(Note: this is my family’s version of Hollandaise sauce, not the real stuff!)

1 Tbs. Mayo
1 Tbs. Miracle Whip
1 squirt of mustard
lemon juice, to taste

Mix all ingredients together and warm in the microwave.

MANIC MONDAY – Remember to Remember Not To Forget

Hello from Seattle!  I am currently visiting my family in Seattle.  I am crazy.  I traveled from Missouri to Washington with my two little boys, BY MY SELF!  I was quite the site, to say the least.

But, I’m not going to bore you with those details…instead I thought I’d share a trick a friend told me she does to remember things.  The reason I even thought to post this is because I actually used it when packing for my trip.  Traveling anywhere with children entails A LOT of stuff!  And that means A LOT to remember not to forget!

So, my friend told me about this trick she does, and I admit, I laughed when she told me about it.  Then Cammie told me she tried it and swears by it too!  Basically, all the stuff I just cannot forget (whether when I’m packing or just need to remember something) comes to me right before I fall asleep.  Not when I’m getting ready for bed, not when I first lay down, like 1 minute before I’m out and there is no way I am getting out of bed or even moving from my very comfy position to write down what I need to remember.  So, what do I do now (because it totally works!), I just throw something on the floor.  Whatever I can grab the fastest and with the least amount of movement.  Then toss it on the floor.  The other night it was a hair tie that was on my wrist!  Then, when you wake up in the morning and see that thing in your path, you wonder, “why is this thing on the floor…oh!  I remember!”  Seriously, try it!

Happy Monday!

FREEBIE FRIDAY…You’ve Been Egged!

IMG_6125Picasa

Monday night my kids and I “egged” some friends of ours!  Its the nice, friendly way to egg someone!  We started our night out by filling a bunch of plastic Easter eggs with some yummy candy, then I printed out a sign that says “YOU’VE BEEN EGGED” from Eighteen 25

IMG_6128Picasa IMG_6126Picasa

Then to be even sneakier we all got dressed in black.  We called ourselves the black bunnies!  We even put on some black hoodies!  We then grabbed our Easter baskets filled with eggs and drove to our friends.  Ben was the get-a-way driver.  He dropped us off and got positioned to get-a-way.  We hid some of the eggs and we let some of them be very exposed on the lawn.  When we were done hiding all the eggs Briggs waited for the rest of us to get in the car, then he taped the sign to the door, rang the bell, and ran for it!!!  This is where we ran into a few problems, I accidently closed the door and our automatic door was causing problems and wouldn’t open, finally it opened but by then we didn’t want to be caught so our crazy amazing get-a-way driver backed up to the end of the street where we could be hidden.  We couldn’t tell if our friends were hunting for eggs so we just waited and waited.  Finally we decided it would be clear for us to return home, but just as we passed their home they all came out to hunt for the eggs!!!  We all ducked (except for our driver) and hoped they didn’t see us!  The next morning during carpool our friends told us all about being egged, and they never suspected us!  I guess they didn’t notice us drive by because they were having too much fun hunting for eggs!  It was such a fun night!!!
