Freebie Friday

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope everyone had as wonderful day as I did!  Now I am off to bed so I can get up EARLY for Black Friday!!!  Emily and I have mapped out our stores, have a plan of action, and are ready to shop, shop, shop!  One thing I will have in my hand is my kids Christmas Wish List.  I made them early this week and had them fill them out, they were a big help as I thumbed through 50+ ads today!  The wish lists are separated into categories that were good for my kids, but I also made blank ones for those who may have other categories in mind.

More Turkey Day Crafts

I’m back!  Thanks to Cammie for picking up this tired mamma’s slack!  As for my post today…

Two more crafts!

The first is something Cammie and I are going to make with (more like for) our kids, because it’s so darn cute!  The cutest turkey shirts!  I found this on Treasures for Tots and the tutorial here.

The second is more of a game, but it still takes some craftiness!  I think my 2 year old would get a kick out of this turkey bowling.  I found it at Make and Takes and the tutorial here.

Thanksgiving Kids Crafts

Turkey-Centerpiece_full_article_vertical I love holidays!  Every holiday for me can be associated with traditions of food, fun activities, and crafts.  I love doing crafts with my kids!  This week I plan on doing a few Thanksgiving craft projects with them.  I found this first one at Woman’s Day.  It is a cute Turkey centerpiece.  I think instead of putting nuts in I’ll have my kids make several and put rolls in each of them for our Thanksgiving dinner.   Click HERE to learn how to make these adorable Turkey centerpieces.

I also thought I’d have my kids make some of these pilgrim hats and Indian headbands.  They look so easy, and my kids love dressing up, so these will be perfect.  I found the pilgrim hats HERE, and I found the Indian headbands HERE.  Happy crafting with your kids!

Friday Freebie!

Today's freebies are Thanksgiving place cards!  I made 2 because one will take a bit more ink, while the other is a little simpler, using less ink.  You can write the name on top and then each guest can write what they are thankful for on the bottom part.  They are both 4x6 in size, and  there three on a 8.5x11 page.  Print, cut out, fold the card in half, and place at each table setting.

More Recipes…and some good news!

I’ll start with the good news…Emily had her baby yesterday!  A healthy baby boy!  I got to see him last night and he is just as adorable as can be!  So now you know why we didn’t post yesterday, it was a bit busy for us both!  But I am here today to share 2 more recipes!  The first one is Carameled Sweet Potatoes.  It is a recipe from my great grandma Grace Jones.  It is so sweet and tasty, and just perfect for a Thanksgiving side dish.  My husband is known for these in his family now, because he always makes them just right!

Carameled Sweet Potatoes

This second recipe is for a Pumpkin Roll.  Who doesn’t love a good pumpkin roll, filled with cream cheese frosting?  I personally love all things pumpkin(seriously)and this is one of them!

A Week of Recipes!

Can you believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner?  We thought we would take this week to share with you some of our Thanksgiving recipes.  We’ve got some yummy ones!  To start off I am sharing a recipe that we got at a recipe exchange we are both involved in at our church.  Actually Emily is in charge of the recipe exchange.  She picks a theme for the month; crock pot, dessert, breads, salads, etc., and everyone brings their favorite dish, along with the recipe to share.  On the month we did salads and breads, a friend of ours brought the most amazing rolls!  She told us she really only makes them around Thanksgiving time because they are a bit time consuming.  After telling Emily and I this, we both agreed that these were perfect for our next Thanksgiving meal.  I volunteered to make them this year, and I can’t wait to eat these yummy rolls.

Try these out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Preparing for Thanksgiving

For the past couple of years Emily and I have rotated Thanksgiving dinner at our homes, and we are usually good about making assignments early on.  This year however we have gone back and forth on who's house to have it at because of Emily’s unborn baby!  We all thought she would have had him by now(since her first baby was born 3 weeks early) but because we know this baby must arrive in the next 2 weeks, we feel our plans are a bit in limbo.  Yesterday we finally made a decision on having it at her home because her baby will have his own space.  What we haven’t done is make assignments for all those coming.  We have family coming, along with a few friends, and we need to make assignments for them.  Last night I made this Thanksgiving guest list and assignments list to keep Emily and I organized.  If you are in need of making your Thanksgiving assignments please enjoy this FREE download by clicking on:

Recipe Boxes

In case you haven’t noticed, we sell a meal planning system that contains recipes!  Our system is great for organizing and planning meals, but what do you do with the extra recipes when they aren’t part of the plan?  There are many options, or course, but my favorite, and probably the most traditional, is a recipe box.  And let me tell you, there are some CUTE boxes out there!  Here’s some ideas of what you can find to store and organize all your recipes.  Just one more way to make your life a little more organized!

The Kitchen Aid Mixer is one of my FAVORITE kitchen Products!

Kitchen Aid I’ve had a kitchen aid mixer for about 3 years now and it is one of my favorite kitchen tools!  I received it as a gift and to be honest I didn’t think I would use it much, boy was I wrong!  I use it all the time.  I can throw in my ingredients to a cookie or cake mix, turn it on and my hands are free to clean up.  I also use it to make homemade blizzards for my family.  I grew up on homemade blizzards and I personally like them better than the blizzards from Dairy Queen.  I scoop the ice cream in it, a small amount of milk and our favorite treat(mostly mint Oreos) and turn my kitchen aid mixer on.  These are SO yummy.  I also used it the other day to whip my whip cream for some pie.  It is seriously a great tool and I wouldn’t want to bake without it!  Amazon is one of my favorite places to shop and they have the Kitchen Aid Mixer for a great deal.  Go check it out, see all the colors they come in, and all the fun attachments you can add on, you won’t be disappointed!

Never Fail Pie Crust

Who’s been making pies this month?  I love Emily’s family tradition of November pie month, because I LOVE pie!  I especially love pumpkin pie!  I love pumpkin pie so much that I sometimes request it for my birthday, which is in March!  My favorite pumpkin pie recipe is Libby’s, I haven’t had one I like better!  I did however searched awhile for a favorite pie crust, a flaky pie crust.  Last year Emily and I spent the day before Thanksgiving making several pies and we believe we found our favorite pie crust.  Try it out with your favorite pie and let us know what you think.

Happy pie eating month to everyone!

Traditions

pumpkin_pie I love traditions.  I love keeping old traditions, and I love making new traditions.  So, this time of year is my favorite because of all the traditions!  In the spirit of traditions, I thought I’d share a family tradition my mom started many years ago, that is a little different, but one of the best!  Sometime when I was in high school, my mom decided to designate November as “Pie Month.”  Pie Month means an entire month of baking pies.  I swear my mom will make at least a couple different pies each week.  She will repeat our favorites (a lot) but try all kinds of new ones too.  Pie Month caught on quite quickly, and we all love to make pies in November.  But that’s the funny thing about Pie Month, it only happens in November.  I can’t remember my mom making a pie any other month in the year!  So, we load up on all kinds of yummy pie all month, discovering old favorites and new.  Then, by Thanksgiving the best part of pie month happens.  Thanksgiving day we eat pie first!  This is by far my favorite part of Pie Month and I have since brought it to my own family traditions!  Basically, to make sure we had room for the best part of Thanksgiving dinner…the pie…we eat pie all day and before Thanksgiving dinner!  I remember before Pie Month was invented, drooling over the many delicious looking Thanksgiving pies and not being aloud try any of them until after dinner.  But thanks to Pie Month and the pie first tradition, I wait no more!  Aren’t traditions the best?!  Happy Pie Month!

It’s That Time of Year

IMG_4008 copy Can you believe it’s already November?  Did October fly by or what?  I hope everyone had a very happy Halloween and that your kids aren’t in complete sugar shock!  My little cowboy sure is!

Now that it’s November though, it’s time to start thinking about how soon Christmas will be here!  I know, I know, we have to make it through Thanksgiving first (and I have to have a baby!), but still it’s always nice to at least think about being prepared!  So guess what I’m going to say is the perfect gift this gift giving season?!  That’s right, our Pocket System is the right thing for any busy mom or busy woman out there!  Think about it how great it would be to get the perfect solution to your meal planning issues as a gift!  Let’s face it, it would be a great gift to get even if you don’t have any meal planning issues!  It’s a great organizing system at the very least!  So, try it for yourself if you haven’t already and get one for a sister, friend, mom, whatever!  Keep in mind our system would be a great wedding gift, bridal or baby shower gift, Christmas gift (of course!), or birthday gift!  The possibilities are endless, and we’re here to help!
